Types of Jibs
Luffing jib/luffing fly jib
Jibs that can be moved continuously using a wire rope and winch separate from the hoist winch. This design allows operators to maneuver the jib up and down to help lift loads up and over structures and other obstacles.
Benefits of luffing/luffing fly jibs:
- Fulcrum allows for greater leverage, providing added horizontal reach.
- Excellent for HVAC, facility maintenance jobs, and other lifts that require lifting loads over large-scale complexes.
Fixed jib/lattice fly jib
These jibs are attached at a fixed position and do not move while the crane is in operation. Additional fixed jibs can be attached for greater reach at the cost of lift capacity.
Benefits of fixed jib/lattice fly jibs:
- Can be attached with a series of offsets, such as 0, 15, 30, and 40 degrees
- Ideal for long-term jobs, such as commercial construction projects.
Folding jib/swing-away jib
These jibs allow operators to extend them when they are needed. The jib stows on the side of the boom, allowing operators to swing it into place when needed for greater reach.
Benefits of lattice booms:
- Can be hydraulically offsetable.
- The ability to fold along the boom makes it easier to maneuver cranes in tight, congested workspaces, such as oil and gas refineries.
