ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp. Purchases 10 of the Groundbreaking New Manitowoc MLC300 Crawler

March 25, 2014--ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp. has purchased 10 of the new 330-USt Manitowoc MLC300 crawler crane. The latest offering from Manitowoc and making its debut at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in March, the MLC300 features the exclusive Variable Position Counterweight (VPC) system.

Typical crawlers are heel heavy during assembly and while no load is on the hook. But when making a lift, the high ground-bearing pressure typically transfers to the toe of the crawler. With traditional cranes there is no way to avoid these shifting high ground pressure. The ML300 is not a traditional crane.

In the VPC system, the counterweight is centered between the fully retracted and fully extended positions, automatically balancing the crane's center of gravity. A patented rail system transfers the counterweight from back to front, depending on the boom extension.

Because the counterweight is movable as needed, VPC helps reduce the crane's operating footprint, which in turn helps reduce the ground-bearing pressure and the amount of ground preparation required for crane operations. This means less matting to distribute the weight across a broader footprint. The VPC technology also eliminates the nee for carbody counterweights. The weight typically added to the carbody can now be added to the upperworks to increase capacity while retaining performance and on-site mobility.

"We can reduce the number of required mats by half. That's thousands of dollars in savings per month, and that's saying nothing of the reduced counterweight loads and the savings realized by reducing the required job site prep are," says Rick Mikut, crawler crane division manager, ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp.

Michael Liptak, president of ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp., says, "This is our bread-and-butter capacity range, and being able to create savings for our customers here, at this capacity, is part of why customers choose ALL. Without hyperbole I tell you that this technology will change the crawler category."
